According to a study by the University of California, Berkeley, private jets are responsible for 0.65% of global warming, emitting 25 times more carbon dioxide per passenger than commercial airliners.

While this might not seem like a large percentage, it is important to remember that private jets are used primarily by the wealthy – meaning that their impact is disproportionate to their numbers. In fact, the top 10% of earners are responsible for 50% of all private jet travel.

What’s more, private jets often fly empty or with only a few passengers – wasting vast amounts of fuel and emitting even more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

So, while they might not be the biggest contributor to climate change, private jets are certainly having a larger impact than their numbers would suggest – and that’s something we should all be concerned about.
