Embraer is planning to be 100% sustainable and are committing to carbon-neutral operations by 2040. Embraer is establishing a series of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) targets. The sustainability plan includes a zero-emission eVTOL aircraft in the next 5 years which will push the company and aerospace industry forward.

Embraers CEO and President Francisco Gomes Neto had this to say about being fully sustainable, “At Embraer, we recognize the urgency of the climate crisis and we are fully committed to a more sustainable future. We are stepping up our efforts to minimize our carbon footprint by remaining dedicated to innovating solutions that have a broader impact for our customers, our local communities, and our aircraft.” Embraer has set targets of a 50% decrease in carbon emissions by 2040, using 2018 emissions as the baseline. Also Embraer wants to use 100% of their energy from renewable sources by 2030, carbon neutral growth from 2022 with 2021 as the baseline.

To reach net-zero aviation emissions by 2040, Embraer also is exploring the development of electric aircrafts, including eVTOL aircraft, but also plans to work with suppliers to make aircraft compatible with the use of 100 percent sustainable fuels. Embraers Vice President of people and communications, Carlos Alberto Griner had this to say about the global aviation market, “The demand for qualified professionals in the technology field is growing in the global job market; however, they are often not within the reach of underrepresented groups. With Social Tech, it is our hope to contribute to eliminating these social and economic barriers.” Embraer has a lot of work to do in order to hit the goals set in the next 20 to 30 years.
