- A statement from AMC Airlines
The Brazzilian Federal Police seized over 1,300 kilos of cocaine from a Turkish-registered Gulfstream IV when attempting to clear customs in the coastal city of Fortaleza. The substance was packed into suitcases on the aircraft and the Spanish passenger as well as the Turkish captain were arrested. The captain claims he didn’t know that the drugs were in the luggage; another three crew members were also interrogated. The aircraft, cell phones, and documents were seized for further investigation. The GIV started in Malaga, Spain where the passenger was picked up, and landed in Fortaleza, traveled to Riberao Preto, and then returned.
In a statement, ACM Airlines said “customers and their personal belongings have nothing to do with our company and our flight crew…responsibility for the control of passenger belongings is entirely under the airport authority…our flight crew and aircraft will arrive in Turkey as soon as possible following the completion of the legal process.”
