International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) main vision is to achieve the sustainable growth of the global civil aviation system, and the ICAO wants to serve as the global forum of States for international civil aviation. ICAO develops policies and Standards, undertakes compliance audits, performs studies and analyses, provides assistance and builds aviation capacity through many other activities and the cooperation of its Member States and stakeholders. The Air Navigation Commission (ANC) is the technical body within ICAO. The commission is composed of 19 commissioners, nominated by the ICAO’s contracting states and appointed by the ICAO Council.

The ICAO used 4-letter airport codes. The codes are based on the country and region of the airport, for example, L indicated Southern Europe, F France, and PG, Paris this would be the airport code for Charles de Gaulle Airport (LFPG). The United States uses K, so the Los Angeles International Airport is KLAX. Each airport has their own specific airport code based on their location. IATA codes are 3 letter codes used by a non-governmental trade organization to efficiently identify airports, airlines, and flight paths for consumers. ICAO Recommends a unification of units of measurement within aviation based on the International System of Units. Knots (kn) is used for speed, nautical miles (nm)is used for distance, and feet  (ft) is used for elevation.
