- The Aircraft Was Rerouted During the Flight
The Cessna that was registered in Vienna was supposed to land in Cologne, Germany, but instead, it flew out into the Baltic.
After the Cessna 551 failed to respond to controllers’ calls, German and Danish fighter jets were sent to follow it. A Swedish helicopter searched for it soon after.
This past Sunday, a Danish ferry as well as two helicopters from Lithuania and Sweden searched the Baltic unsuccessfully.
The Latvian Civil Aviation Authority stated that the aircraft, which was supposed to be flying from Spain to Cologne, was rerouted during the flight. Air traffic controllers were unable to communicate with the crew of the aircraft.
According to the FlightRadar24 data tracking website, the plane took off from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain at 12:56 GMT.
At 5:37 PM, FlightRadar24 shows its dropping speed and altitude.
The plane’s communications were lost after it left the Iberian Peninsula and reported problems with cabin pressure, according to the German newspaper Bild.
