- Details of Southwests 10 year environmental plan
Southwest Airlines Co. on Monday unveiled a 10-year environmental sustainability plan that includes a reduction of carbon intensity by at least 20% by 2030 and maintaining carbon neutral growth every year through the end of the decade.
Through fleet modernization, route optimization, and other initiatives, the company said it plans to reduce carbon emissions per available seat mile, including scope 1 and scope 2 emissions, by at least 20% by the end of the decade. Southwest also said it planned to replace 10% of its total jet fuel consumption with sustainable aviation fuel by 2030.
Southwest said it was providing the “first U.S.-based airline carbon offset offer with loyalty points.” The company also said it would match contributions made toward offsetting its carbon emissions.
