Archer Aviation, a startup that’s developing electric air taxis, has received a $10 million deposit from United Airlines. The deposit is for 100 of Archer’s vehicles, which are expected to be operational by 2024.

Archer’s planes will be expected to fly 60 miles with speeds as fast as 150 miles per hour, transporting up to four United clients at a time.

“United estimates Archer’s eVTOL aircraft could reduce CO2 emissions by 47% per passenger on a trip between Hollywood and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), one of the initial cities where Archer plans to launch its fleet,” FoxBusiness reported.

United Airlines Ventures president Michael Leskin said in a statement: “We believe eVTOLs have the potential to both help achieve carbon-neutral travel and serve as an innovative new tool to change how United customers experience comfort, convenience, and efficiency during their commutes within cities across the globe.”
