Flightradar24‘s official Twitter account showed that Sam Bankman-Fried‘s (SBF) private jet was the most tracked flight at 3:33 a.m. on Nov. 12, 2022, flying from the Bahamas to Argentina.

“The most tracked flight right now,” Flightradar24 wrote. “According to tweets, the founder and former CEO of [FTX] is en route to Argentina after the FTX collapse earlier this week.”

While this doesn’t necessarily mean SBF took the flight himself, many people speculated that someone close to him did fly out of the Bahamas. The former FTX CEO later texted Reuters and denied taking the flight himself.

SBF clarified that he still remains in the Bahamas and explained why his private jet flew to South America. He said, “My jet is available for my friends, family, and colleagues who are traveling around the world. In this case, a close friend of mine wanted to visit Argentina so I let them use it.” SBF also added that he often provides his jet to people with whom he has a close relationship and trusts.

The news of SBF’s private jet flying to Argentina caused some confusion among the public. Many were perplexed by his decision to send it out despite staying behind in the Bahamas. While SBF hasn’t given any further clarification about the flight, his explanation for why he lent it out provides some insight into why he made the choice.
