United Airlines has placed an order for 200 Eve Air Mobility electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

United has paid $15 million to secure a conditional prepurchase agreement for 200 electric flying taxis currently being developed by Eve Air Mobility (EAM), the startup founded by Brazilian planemaker Embraer. The flying taxi is designed to fly people between city centers and airports, avoiding highway traffic.

Despite the fact that the eVTOL is yet to be certified by aviation regulators, United expects to receive the first deliveries of the electric Eve by 2026.
