Celebrating what would have been Elvis Presley‘s 88th birthday, his 1962 Lockheed 1329 JetStar soared in the Mecum Kissimmee Collector Car Auction—selling for an impressive $260,000!

Bidding began at $100,000 and rapidly increased to $150,000. After several persuasive attempts from the auctioneer, the amount rose steadily all the way up to a peak of $240,000 where it stalled for a few minutes. Ultimately, an anonymous person on the phone provided an offer of $260K which was accepted.

Businessman Jim Gagliardi, of Madera California, will likely be disappointed with the grand total winning bid on his jet that added up to $286,000. When he purchased it at a 2017 auction for only $430,000 (including commission and fees), this was far from the expected outcome.

For nearly four decades, the jet has been left abandoned in Roswell International Air Center’s desert expanse collecting dust. As it stands now, this aircraft remains parked at its original location in Roswell, New Mexico.
