Meta recently disclosed in its SEC filings that CEO Mark Zuckerberg had racked up $2.3 million in expenses for his personal private jet trips in 2022. This is a significant increase from the roughly $1.8 million spent on private jet flights in 2020 and the $1.6 million spent in 2021.

The revelation has sparked criticism from some quarters, particularly given the current economic climate and the fact that Meta has been laying off thousands of employees. According to reports, some employees are unhappy that Zuckerberg and other senior executives are working remotely from far-flung locations while many of their colleagues are being let go.

However, it is worth noting that the majority of Zuckerberg’s compensation in 2022 came from “costs related to personal security” at his homes and during his travels. Meta reported that it paid $14.8 million for these expenses, which is a drop from the $15.2 million spent in 2021.
